Nepal Tragedy
12 PM, it was a beautiful weekend in Nepal. The sigh of relief intermingled with relaxed cheeriness wrapped the nation. Not a soul in the world would have expected the country to be engulfed in a turmoil that would scar the history books forever. Leaving nearly 9000 dead and almost 22,000 injured, the quake reminded us of Mother Nature’s true wrath, which knows no limits nor people. Nepal is an affordable holiday destination, A country which makes one wonder how such a beautiful country can be within the reach of everyone. Not only does it have a rich countryside with forests and a large number of heritage sites including the birthplace of Buddha but it also offers mystic vibes. And of course, the Himalayas need no introduction.
Our heart is where the home is and the home of the Nepali people were ravaged by the earthquake. In a matter of minutes, family was lost; friends were lost; homes were destroyed and above all, all hope was shattered.
The world saw the loss of immortal treasures. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Darbar Square was heavily damaged. The rage of the earthquake reminded us how tiny we are in the grand scheme of things. How this Earth will one day survive but we may not. We hurt nature each and every day, chip away at it little by little but it takes nature one day to put us in our places.
No one knows what price the Nepali people paid but we all know that they were the last nation to deserve such harsh treatment from nature. A lot of us may forget what happened but the Nepali don’t. To them, it’s a cross they have to bear forever.
